Create a DeepL API key

Sign up for a DeepL API plan (Free or Pro) and copy the authentication key from your DeepL account.

Paste it into Verbi

Go to Account → API Keys, paste your key, and save. Verbi verifies it against DeepL before storing it, so you know right away that it works.

You can bring your own DeepL API key — both DeepL Free (keys ending in :fx) and DeepL Pro keys are supported. Verbi uses DeepL as its primary translation engine, the same engine that powers translations on every plan.
Yes. While your key is active, translations are billed to your DeepL account instead of counting against your plan, so Verbi's monthly character limit no longer applies. Your own DeepL account limits apply instead.
Yes. Your key is encrypted at rest and only the translation server can read the full value. The dashboard only ever shows a masked version (like a1b2••••8f9c), and the full key is never sent back to the browser after you save it.
Yes. The key is stored at the account level, so every site you own translates through it automatically. There's no need to configure it per site.
Your sites revert to your plan's included translation credits and monthly character limit on the next request. Nothing breaks — already-translated pages stay cached, and new translations simply use Verbi's credits again.
If DeepL rejects a request because your key is out of quota or invalid, that page falls back to its original language rather than serving a broken translation, and you're alerted so you can top up or update the key.
